You also have four spades out of the five cards in your hand. That puts you just one shy of a flush. If you discard the queen of hearts, you’d have a nine (spades left in the deck) in 47 (cards left in the deck) chance of getting the flush on the draw, which works out to a little less than one in five.
Finally, if you’re a bit more on the daring side, you could hold onto only the three, four, and five of spades. While that would keep a straight and a flush in play, the big prize is if you could somehow get lucky enough to draw a straight flush. It’s one of the highest-paying hands in all of video poker.
Let’s say for the sake of this example that you decide to keep the pair of queens then discard the other three. You’ll notice as you press the “hold” button for the queens that they will then show up on all three lines on the screen in the same position. They will be a part of all three of your hands.
Once you hit the “draw” button, three different draws will take place. Each draw deck will have the same 47 cards to start, as none will have any of the five cards you were dealt. But those decks will each be randomly shuffled, so the results will be different.

Hand 1 ended up in a full house. You managed three of a kind on Hand 2. And, on Hand 3, you weren’t able to improve, but you still had a winning hand with the pair of queens.

- Hand 1: Full House – 45 coins
- Hand 2: Three of a Kind – 15 coins
