Betsoft Gaming
Betsoft slots slot machine games designed by Betsoft Gaming,
Ltd. Betsoft is a software developer for the online casino
industry with headquarters and all operations based out of
London. Betsoft is best-known for their 3D slots, though they
also have a complete library of table games, poker-style games,
traditional slots, video poker and bingo games, and are now
taking over the mobile sector as well.
Betsoft games are among the best-reviewed in all of the
online gambling business. Their first titles were released in
1999 – the company has added to their collection to the point
that it now contains more than 200 individual titles. Their
slots with three-dimensional graphics are still the most popular
in their collection, in part because they’re pretty to look at,
in part because they tell in-depth stories and are studded with
bonus features.
Betsoft Gaming is known as an innovator. Not only do they
host more 3D casino games than any other company, they provide
complete service to operators, from software to back-end
management. The company has been publicly traded (on a minor
British market) since 2010, the same year they were certified by
the much-lauded Alderney Gaming Control Commission. In 2013,
Betsoft reached partnership deals with three operators in the
North American market, making their games available to American
players for the first time.
Betsoft Management
Betsoft’s website is surprisingly mute on the subject of
their management team and Board of Directors. We’ve been able to
find some details on the company’s top three executives, and
we’ve included that information below.
Mark McKeown, CEO
Mr. McKeown is a senior-level executive business professional
with more than two decades’ experience in digital interactive
product development, marketing, and operations management across
multiple platforms. He made a name for himself developing
product roadmaps for industry leaders in game design, becoming a
leader in revenue generation for behind the scenes providers of
live TV and online content. He has conducted executive
operations and worked on sales teams in 25 countries around the
world, and joined the team at Betsoft a decade ago as a sales
executive. Mr. McKeown is probably best known from creating a
series of pay-to-play TV game and movie systems that are still
in use by major distributors today.
Mike Block, CFO
Mike Block is the CFO of Betsoft Gaming Ltd., and has served
in that capacity since 2012. Many credit Mike Block with pushing
the company in the direction of expanded mobile and social
gaming applications. Mike is a certified accountant, having
worked in executive finance positions for over two decades. He
manages all of Betsoft’s financial activities in England and
abroad, and serves in an advisory capacity for gaming
corporations and agencies that report to world governments. Mr.
Block manages and develops all of the company’s financial
strategies, including managing all the accounting and quality
control departments as well.
Lauren Pfefferman, COO
Mrs. Pfefferman is a C-Level executive with nearly two
decades’ experience in business development, direct sales, and
product marketing. Her goal when joining the company in 2011 was
to help Betsoft better understand the emerging gaming market,
and she is credited with guiding the company’s recent
innovations and growth in new markets, particularly North
America. Her experience is mainly in Internet, eCommerce, and
Technology issues, and her career has been spent specializing in
board-level management of various technology-driven businesses.
She’s said to have driven Betsoft’s successful strategy toward
mobile gaming from a ground level, leading accounts through
major transformations at the executive level. She has been named
as part of Gaming Intelligence magazine’s Hot 50 executives, and
represents Betsoft in various industry associations.
Betsoft Slot Machines
Broadly-speaking, all Betsoft slot games can be broken up
into one of three categories.
- Mobile Slots
- Slots3 Slots
- Classic Slots
Mobile Slots
Betsoft’s first mobile release wasn’t until 2012, and it
would be another two years before the company had a
decent-enough collection of mobile games to write about. The
main thing the company has done well in creating a mobile
library is to stick with what works. Their first mobile games
were just mobile-friendly translations of their most-popular
classic titles. Then they started porting their Slots3 games
into a mobile format. By the end of 2016, they’re expect to have
75% of their entire game library, including slots, available to
mobile players.
Slots3 Slots
Betsoft’s Slots3 collection is their premier line of slot
games – fifty-nine different slots. This collection gives them
the largest library of 3D titles of any online casino designer.
These games feature what Betsoft calls “true 3D graphics” and
animations that rival what’s available on console video games
and animated feature films.
Classic Slots
The company’s original roster of slot games, before acquiring
the technology that allows for Slots3 titles, is this group of
eighteen different games without 3D graphics, but with the same
mind toward design as all of Betsoft’s best games. Many of these
classic titles remain as popular as when they first appeared a
decade ago.
Popular Betsoft Games
Here’s a guide to fifteen of Betsoft’s most-popular titles. We
tried to pick a variety of games in order to show off the best
of what Betsoft has to offer.
The Slotfather
Built around a theme of a crime family (and making plenty of
not-so-subtle asides to the famous film series by a similar
name), The Slotfather is a 5-reel and 30-payline Slots3 game.
The game’s symbols are the trappings of organized crime activity
– weapons, fancy suits, fast cars, and plates of steaming
Italian food. The game’s special Multiplier Mob bonus game
rewards players up to twenty free spins, along with a multiplier
ranging from 1x to 20x for each spin. A second bonus, called The
Slotfather Bonus, takes place on a second screen. It’s a pick’em
game in which you select different businesses to rob. Your prize
during these bonuses? A random credit award in the neighborhood
of 100 credits or so per pick.
Good Girl Bad Girl
One of the most-popular Slots3 titles ever, Good Girl Bad
Girl uses a unique double storyline to allow players to choose
between being “good” and being “bad.” One options pays
left-to-right, the other pays out on right-to-left combos. You
can also use both, for a total wager of 30 credits per spin. The
symbols are all interactive and animated, and change depending
on whether you’re good or bad. Think things like halos and
pitchforks. The game’s lone bonus is The Money Wheel Bonus, in
which a spinning wheel (in either heaven or hell) pays out
random credit prizes. We love the scatter symbol in this game,
which pays out starting at just two symbols anywhere on active
lines, regardless of position or order.
The True Sheriff
The True Sheriff is an attempt to translate the excitement of
Old West gunslinger films with Slots3 game design. The game’s
symbols range from revolvers and cactus to bar maids and horses.
The gun symbol is actually an important symbol – if it appears
on the game’s center reel the free spins bonus is activated – an
animated gunslinger will start shooting at the symbols, turning
some of them into wild scatters. Three or more blasted symbols
will pay off a free spin prize between 10 and 15. If you land
five or more scatter symbols, you’ll enter a classic high noon
shootout with a bandit, as part of the game’s Showdown feature.
This game is very adaptable in terms of player bankroll. It can
be an expensive game, though max bets are available from $2.50
up to $250 per spin.
Greedy Goblins
Betsoft’s popular Once Upon a Time classic slot gets the
Slots3 update in this sequel, a five-reel game with up to thirty
pay lines available for wagers. The theme of the game is a band
of thieving greenskins raiding villages and generally causing
mischief. You can play the game with wagers ranging from just
$0.02 all the way up to $75 per spin, though a max bet is
required to gain access to the game’s top payouts, which are a
three-tiered progressive jackpot system. The game’s logo is a
scatter symbol that awards up to 25 free spins each time it
appears. A multiplier symbol is also available that increases
your payout as much as 10x. Greedy Goblins was Betsoft’s first
Slots3 game to use a cascading reels system, which can turn a
single spin into multiple back-to-back wins on a single
triggering bet.
Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde
Betsoft has yet to dig in to the world of licensed slot
games, but their version of the classic Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde
story gives us a good idea of what their licensed games might
look like. This five-reel and thirty-pay line video slot by
Betsoft was one of the first Slots3 games. This game’s symbols
are all familiar to fans of the classic spooky story, from
bubbling potions to traditional playing card and playful
animated fruit symbols. Two bonus rounds exist – one, Hyde Run,
is triggered by spinning three of the game’s logo symbols on any
active pay line. In this game, Dr. Jekyll attempts to outrun the
police after a recent caper by Mr. Hyde. The other bonus game,
Potion Mixing, is triggered by a specific scatter symbol, and is
a classic Betsoft pick’em game rewarding instant credit prizes.
Slots Angels
The theme of Slots Angels is simple – biker chicks. There’s
nothing pornographic about the game – maybe a few NSFW or PG-13
images of scantily-clad women, but nothing too bad. In the game,
the player joins forces with a gang of cool biker chicks as they
travel across the country. The symbols include motorcycles, pool
tables, bottles of beer, money clips, and (of course) a sexy
biker chick in her full regalia. The game includes three pick’em
bonus games that don’t do much to distinguish one from the other
– basically, you’re throwing darts at a board, participating in
a bike race, or trying to repair a bike, all by selecting random
options which pay out free spins, wager multipliers, or instant
credit prizes.
Pinocchio
Pinocchio is based on the classic fairy tale, not the Disney
game of the same name. Still, as good as Betsoft’s designers are
at producing video game-like slots, it may as well be a
fully-licensed game. Since it’s a Slots3 title, it should be no
surprise that it’s a five-reel and fifteen-pay line slot with a
bonus game, a scatter symbol, and a wild symbol. The player
plays along as the story of the wooden boy who becomes a human
plays out. We start out in Geppetto’s workshop, unlocking
additional worlds and more storylines by filling up different
score meters on the screen. The icons in the game include things
ripped straight from the story, like wooden toys, whales,
bottles of booze, and fairies. Re-spins and instant credit
prizes are also available based on bonus games triggered by the
appearance of scatter symbols.
After Night Falls
After Night Falls is Betsoft’s homage to The Pink Panther’s
Inspector Clouseau. In this game, you’re a remarkably-familiar
French detective hunting down a group of jewel thieves through
the night streets of Paris. Landing three or more of the game’s
After Night Falls symbols will award you free spins, as well as
a random prize multiplier of up to 10x. This slot is all about
bonus games – three exist, triggered by different combinations
of the game’s scatter symbol, and only available at different
stages of the game. Not surprisingly, these are all pick’em
games, in which selecting things like where the crooks might be
hiding or when they plan to pull off their next heist leads to
multipliers and instant credit prizes.
A Christmas Carol
One of Betsoft’s newest Slots3 video slots tells the story of
Charles Dickens’ classic (and most importantly public-domain)
novel with the awesome graphics and story-driven slot systems
we’ve come to expect from this company’s mainstream releases.
This is a five reel slot, like most of Betsoft’s Slots3 titles,
but instead of the usual thirty or fifteen reels, it offers only
up to twenty lines. The real driving force of the game is its
three bonus rounds, based on the Ghosts of Christmas Past,
Present and Future. Each rewards a different type of bonus, from
free spins to random wilds to a unique “guaranteed win” spin.
Betsoft’s new Double-Up Mini-game is available on A Christmas
Carol for a first time, allowing a wager on all payouts that
could double your winnings. People love holiday-themed slots;
Betsoft is hoping that love extends to classic works of 19th
century British literature.
The Tipsy Tourist
Weekend in Vegas
An attempt to cash in on the popularity of the popular film
The Hangover, Betsoft created their zany new game Weekend in
Vegas, featuring three wild and crazy friends unleashed on Sin
City. In the game, the characters call the city they’re going to
“The Capital of Second Chances,” which we think is pretty
funny.) Weekend in Vegas is not one of Betsoft’s more
bonus-packed games, with just a single bonus round. What makes
it unique is that you can play that round as each of the three
main characters. One is aggressive, making big risks for big
potential rewards. One is balanced, offering a guaranteed
return. The other is cautious, who may not win big, but
definitely can’t lose. The designers make up for the lack of
features by giving players a really lucrative Scatter Pays
system, a spinning Money Wheel, and wild symbols that reward a
2x multiplier each time they complete a winning combo.
Mega Glam Life
A long-awaited online slot machine? Sounds funny, but it’s
true. Glam Life was one of Betsoft’s original Slots3 titles, a
popular title meant to attract female players with its symbols
related to shopping, glamor, and the high life. Mega Glam Life
is a recent release by Betsoft that picks up where the original
left off. It’s a beautiful-looking five reel and twenty pay line
true-3D video slot with symbols of expensive cars, luxury
yachts, an uncountable piles of cash. Mega Glam Life’s main
attraction is its three-tiered progressive jackpot system, with
a top prize that resets to $100,000, making it the largest in
all of Betsoft’s progressive collection. The game includes the
use of a scatter symbol (for the progressive payouts), as well
as stick wilds that can lead to future repeat wins. An
additional Money Wheel bonus round rewards instant credit prizes
randomly.
At the Movies
Whospunit?
Whospunit is a five reel and thirty pay line video slot based
on a murder mystery theme. It contains a unique feature by which
the top prize is awarded based on your ability to accuse the
correct person of murder. The symbols are all representative of
the characters in the story, from the butler to the mysterious
cousin. From the beginning of the game, you’re thrown into the
story with a countdown that lets you know how much time you have
until the game’s unique Detective Mode begins. During this time,
you have to collect stars that pop up randomly on the reels,
which you can trade for clues to (eventually) help you try to
name the murderer, which leads to the game’s top payout of
320,000 coins. You earn these clue stars by spinning winning
combos during regular play. Once Detective Mode begins, you use
scatter symbols as opportunities to present the clues and claim
the top prize.
Rock Star
This five reel and thirty pay line 3D Slots3 series game by
Betsoft is designed around a heavy metal theme. The graphics
really set the mood on this game, which owes as much to
tongue-in-cheek This Is Spinal Tap humor as it does to actual
heavy metal music. The game’s symbols are all related to
traditional rock star paraphernalia. You’ll hear blasting guitar
riffs, see brilliant flashing lights, use a drum kit as a spin
button, and just generally rock out with the crazy musicians on
the screen. This game includes multiple bonus rounds, each built
around an instrument from a rock band. Unfortunately, they’re
all basically pick’em games with different graphics, handing out
multipliers and instant credit prizes, like most of Betsoft’s
bonus-heavy Slots3 titles.
Summary
Betsoft Gaming’s slot titles are aimed at players who are
into slots with beautiful graphics, lots of player bonuses, and
plots modeled on modern console and computer games. Betsoft
slots are regarded as the top-end of online casino game design –
their titles are responsive, they spent a lot of time and money
on design, and the games have high replay value.
Thanks to an aggressive new release schedule, we expect their
total slot machine holdings to double within two more years. We
also expect Betsoft to make new developments in the areas of
mobile and social gaming, as Betsoft executives have been
quietly forming partnerships and mergers with smaller companies
that focus in these up and coming niche markets.
